New City College named International Finalist in prestigious Green Gown Awards

New City College has been named as a finalist in the 2025 International Green Gown Awards – putting the college on the world stage for its pioneering work in sustainability and green skills!

The announcement follows NCC’s recent success at the national Green Gown Awards, where the college won the coveted Next Generation Learning and Skills category for its sector-leading ‘Green Skills Revolution’.

Now representing the UK in the international stage of the competition, NCC is one of just 97 finalists worldwide, with institutions from 27 countries recognised for their innovative work to cut carbon, engage communities, and shape a more sustainable future.

NCC is up against institutions from Turkey, Morocco, India, Spain, Canada, Brazil and Australia, among others, in the Next Generation Learning and Skills category.

The International Green Gown Awards, now in their 11th year, highlight the most inspiring environmental and educational projects across the globe. Winners will be announced next year.

New City College is a finalist in the 2025 International Green Gown Awards – putting the college on the world stage for its pioneering work in sustainability and green skills.

New City College’s nomination reflects its ambitious commitment to equipping students and the workforce with essential green skills – from hands-on courses in electric vehicle maintenance and energy efficiency, to training in retrofit and solar power. These practical courses, supported by nearly £10m of partnership funding, are already helping businesses and individuals across London lead the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Gerry McDonald CBE, Group Principal and CEO of New City College, said: “Being named as an International Green Gown finalist is an incredible honour. It recognises not only the work of our staff and partners, but also our students, apprentices and local communities, all of whom are driving positive change. We’re proud to be leading the way in shaping the workforce for a sustainable future.”

New City College’s national Green Gown Award was received at a ceremony in Edinburgh in December 2024 by Calley Page, NCC’s Deputy Group Director for Apprenticeships and Business Development, who plays a key role in identifying the green skills needed across different industries, and championing this important work.
