New City College proud to be part of creative project to drive cultural transformation

A £1.6m investment has been announced to bring to life the London Borough of Havering’s new cultural strategy, A Good Life, and New City College is a key partner that will help deliver the programme.

The funding will benefit students and staff at NCC Ardleigh Green and NCC Havering Sixth Form campuses and will support a three-year programme to unlock cultural, arts and skills opportunities, beginning in April 2025.

A Good Life is a bold strategy to transform Havering into a more vibrant, creative and inclusive borough. By placing people and communities at the heart of decision-making it will aim to embed culture at the heart of everyday life.

NCC will play a major part in delivering the initiatives and opportunities which will help Havering thrive in years to come.

Andy Greaves, NCC’s Deputy Group Curriculum Director for Creative and Digital said: “At New City College we are passionate about equipping our students with the skills and creativity needed to thrive in the evolving cultural landscape.

“Being on the Partnership Panel of A Good Life allows us to support innovative learning, creative collaborations, and cultural enrichment across Havering. This initiative will empower our students and the wider community, fostering a sense of belonging and ambition.

“We are excited to contribute to a project that places arts, heritage, and education at the heart of local life.”

A Good Life will unlock:

  • 30 exciting projects across heritage, creativity, community and wellbeing
  • New public events and venues with refreshed facilities, heritage trails and immersive cultural experiences
  • Opportunities for local artists, young people and creatives to develop skills
  • Initiatives supporting health, wellbeing and the environment

The Partnership Panel comprises of: Creative Health Havering, Fuse (Local Cultural Education Partnership), New City College, Havering Changing, Havering Museum, London Borough of Havering, Romford BID, and the Centre for Performance, Technology, and Equity (PTEQ) at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

The funding, which includes £500,000 from Arts Council England and £250,000 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, was secured by Havering London, a new organisation that is spearheading a progressive vision for culture in the borough.

Dr David Shearing and Mathew Russell, Directors of Havering London, said:
“We are immensely proud of the collaborative efforts that have brought this historic investment to Havering. The funding will ensure people who live, work and study in the area can access and contribute to a thriving cultural life.”
