New City College steps into the spotlight at Film London Skills Summit

New City College was delighted to have been asked to attend the prestigious Film London Skills Summit, joining some of the biggest names in the screen industries to talk about the future of film, television and games production.

Hosted by Film London, the second annual summit brought together more than 100 senior figures from across the creative sector to tackle the most pressing skills challenges facing the industry today.

From emerging trends and workforce development to future-proofing in a fast changing landscape, the event was a powerful forum for collaboration and innovation.

NCC was proudly represented by Deputy Group Curriculum Director for Creative & Digital, Andy Greaves, who said being the only college invited to sit on a panel was a significant moment that reflects NCC’s growing reputation as a trusted and influential partner within the creative media industry.

Professionals from global organisations including Disney, Netflix, ITV, Sony Pictures and Apple TV joined other representatives on the panels to share their insights and best practice. The keynote address was delivered by Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of Film London and the British Film Commission, who highlighted key developments and opportunities across the sector.

Andy was one of four expert panellists for Good Practice: Skills That Work, a session spotlighting successful approaches to developing industry-ready talent. He shared how NCC is building meaningful pathways into the screen industries through initiatives such as the First Foot In Film Bootcamp course – which guarantees interviews for industry roles – and Set In Motion, a collaboration with Film Barking & Dagenham and Eastbrook Studios, which is designed to ensure learners are fully set-ready when they leave college.

Andy said: “We were honoured to be a part of the Film London Skills Summit and to be in such inspiring company with industry partners driving change across the sector. The discussions around skills, challenges, future-proofing and bold provocations about where our industry is heading were incredibly timely. It was great to share New City College’s initiatives with everyone in the audience and on the panels.”

The summit also celebrated the achievements of the Metro London Skills Cluster over the past year and featured panels made up of heads of production, line producers, hair and make-up artists, and senior leaders in training and recruitment.

In another proud moment for NCC, the Workforce and Freelancers Panel was chaired by former student Tomi Ojo, pictured above, who studied A Levels at Havering Sixth Form before forging a successful career in the industry. Tomi now works as the Membership and Projects Manager at Film London.

Being invited to contribute at this level demonstrates the strength of NCC’s reputation – including a ScreenSkills accreditation – and underlines the college’s commitment to ensuring students gain the skills, knowledge and connections they need to thrive in the creative industries.
