Information for parents and carers

This page offers information, advice and guidance for parents, guardians and carers of current and prospective New City College students.

Working in partnership with parents and guardians

At New City College, we know students achieve their best when college, parents, and carers work together. This page provides key information, advice, and guidance for families of both current and prospective students.

Supporting your young person

Starting college is a big step. Students are encouraged to become independent learners in a supportive environment that challenges and stretches them.

We value the vital role parents and carers play in helping young people succeed. Together, we can:

  • Support the transition from school to college
  • Encourage responsibility and independence
  • Provide guidance for academic success and wellbeing

We set high expectations for all students. In return, we provide the support they need to progress to university, an apprenticeship, or employment.

Attendance

Good attendance is key to success. Our college-wide target is 100%.

  • Students with 100% attendance are entered into prize draws for vouchers.
  • Absences or lateness should be reported via ProPortal or Parent Portal in the MyNCC app (Notified Absence).
  • Please avoid taking your young person out of college during term time.

If you can’t report online, email your tutor. Please avoid phoning, as ProPortal allows us to manage absences more effectively.

Progress evenings

Progress Evenings are held online via SchoolCloud and can be booked through the MyNCC app.

You’ll receive an email with your booking link, or you can use the campus links below. To log in, you’ll need:

Progress reports are available in ProPortal via the MyNCC app.  For more information you can read our guide on where to find progress reports.

ProPortal parent account

ProPortal gives parents and carers access to key information about their young person’s progress at New City College. It also allows us to stay in touch with you.

Working in partnership with parents and carers gives students the best chance of success. That’s why it is essential that we have your correct contact details. This ensures we can invite you to important events such as progress reviews and welcome evenings, contact you quickly in an emergency (including during off-site trips and activities, which students cannot attend without an emergency contact), and keep you updated with the latest news and announcements from the college.

How to log into your parent ProPortal account

With ProPortal you can:

  • Report absences
  • View student timetables and exam schedules
  • Update parent/carer contact details
  • See study programmes and courses
  • Check notes and comments from tutors
  • Track weekly attendance summaries
  • View assessment schedules and progress reports
  • Book and attend progress evenings (via SchoolCloud)

Keep your contact details up to date

It’s vital we have your correct contact information. Without it, your young person may miss out on:

  • College trips and visits
  • Parents/carers’ review meetings
  • Important updates and announcements

Every student has a ProPortal account. To check and update details:

  1. Log into ProPortal
  2. Go to Information → Further Details
  3. Check the Next of Kin section and update if needed
