Fatma is an adult student who is studying the Level 3 Diploma in Professional Cookery for adults at New City College Hackney campus.

She believes that finding the Professional Cookery course as a mature student has given her a chance to do something she loves.

“I’ve just always enjoyed cooking at home. I have been helping to chop vegetables since I was a child and now have the opportunity to run a service in a professional restaurant.

I’m so glad I decided to enrol on the course. It has thrown up so many opportunities for me. Initially I was only looking for a food health and safety course, but I came across the Professional Cookery at Hackney when my son was looking to enrol on something different, and it all developed from there.

I’ve done so many jobs in the past, but studying this course has given me a purpose and has enabled me to develop my passion for cooking. It is a wonderful feeling of achievement as an older student.”
