‘If you’re serious about your sport and willing to put in the work, this programme will help you reach your goals. The coaching is very personal and tailored to the individual.’
With ambitions to eventually play professional basketball, Jaden is making the most of his time on the London Lions Basketball Academy programme at New City College. He is studying the Level 3 Sport course at Hackney Campus and thanks to personalised coaching and a strong support network with the academy, he’s confident that the programme is setting him up to achieve his goals.
As a student, how are you finding the London Lions Academy?
It’s going really good. They’re developing us as players in a way that’s helping me work towards my goal of going pro. The coaches focus on each of us individually, giving us specific advice that we need to improve and grow. That’s what makes the programme so effective.
What makes the coaching at NCC different?
It’s very personal. The coaches really know who I am – it’s like a community. When I go to Coach Kyla or Coach Kwanjie with a question, they always give me help and suggestions that are tailored just to me. They let me know what I need to do to reach my goals as a player.
What are your goals for this year?
This year I want to increase my athletic ability, especially how high I can jump, and work hard so I can play consistently on the Elite team. I’m aiming to be part of that team by the end of the season.
How has the programme helped you grow as an athlete?
It’s pushed me to focus more on my physical development and mindset. The structure of the training and support from the coaches has made me more disciplined and confident in my ability to reach the next level.
Would you recommend the programme to other 16-year-olds?
Definitely. I’d recommend the London Lions Programme to 16 and 17-year-olds who are serious about their sport. If you’re willing to put in the work and stay committed, this is the place that will help you get where you want to go.
