Oksana decided to study as an adult learner on the AAT Accounting course at New City College Hackney after she was encouraged by a friend to enrol.

Having had to leave her home country of Ukraine, she says the course has allowed her to restart her Accounting career in the UK, and has given her confidence in the workplace to progress to the position of Accounts Manager at Xeinadin Group – a top 20 firm of accountants.

While attending NCC, Oksana represented the college in Accounting in the national WorldSkills Competition, reaching the finals in 2023, which is an incredible achievement.

Why did you decide to study the AAT Accounting course at New City College?

A friend of mine, who was also a student at New City College, recommended the course and specifically praised the tutor at the Hackney campus, Domenico Falco. It was an excellent opportunity to gain theoretical knowledge, which has been very helpful in practice. During my interview for an accounts manager position, I was asked several questions, and I was fortunate to have the knowledge I gained directly from Domenico’s teaching.

Would you recommend the course to others?

Absolutely, yes! I’ve already recommended it to many of my friends who want to start working in accounting. This course is also beneficial for those with a background in the field from different countries.

How did the course help you – was it what you expected?

It helped me refresh the knowledge I gained while studying in Ukraine. After completing the course, I was able to work confidently in the UK. It gave me assurance and made me stand out from other applicants at the job interview. Since completing the course I have progressed from an assistant accountant to an accounts manager.

How did New City College help you achieve, were the teachers supportive?

New City College provided all the necessary materials, technical resources, and plenty of time with tutors to study new topics and clarify any questions. I’m especially grateful to the tutor Domenico for his support throughout the course. Thanks to hard work and his guidance, I achieved my goals.

What are you doing now you have completed the qualification?

I’m now considering a career in auditing, as I previously worked as an internal auditor in Ukraine. I also hold a PhD in Economics, which I earned in 2014 from a university in Ukraine. Thanks to New City College and Domenico, I’ve had the perfect opportunity to restart my accounting career in the UK, and I’m very pleased with this progress. Xeinadin Group is a business advisory and accountancy firm with offices throughout the UK. It provides audit, accounts, payroll, corporate finance, corporate recovery, tax and VAT services, so I have plenty of opportunity for personal development in my career.
