Let’s make a difference

At New City College, we believe every action counts when it comes to protecting our planet. From the way we run our campuses to the choices we make every day, sustainability is at the heart of what we do.

Our goal is simple: reduce our environmental footprint, cut waste, and inspire our students and staff to be part of a greener future.

NCC Goes Green

NCC Goes Green is all about raising awareness, taking action, and making real changes for a greener future.

Across our campuses, students and staff will be getting involved in hands-on activities that highlight the importance of sustainability, from tackling fast fashion and reducing waste to rethinking our energy use and supporting local environmental initiatives.

How can students get involved?

  • Take action – join a litter pick or swap pre-loved clothes at our Clothes Swap events
  • Get creative – try upcycling projects like T-shirts to tote bags, origami, or green-themed jewellery making
  • Make an impact – plant wildflowers, craft bird feeders, or pledge to reduce your carbon footprint
  • Get informed – attend sustainability and green jobs fairs, energy advice sessions, and environmental documentary screenings
  • Learn more – sign up to our extracurricular Carbon Literacy courses

New waste partnership with Veolia

We’re proud to be working with Veolia, a leading waste and recycling provider, to help us improve how we manage waste across our campuses. This partnership supports our commitment to:

  • Diverting more waste away from landfill
  • Reducing contamination in recycling
  • Making recycling easier and clearer for everyone

With Veolia’s support, we’re introducing new colour-coded bins to make sure waste is sorted properly.

Please remember: no food in classrooms. Food waste should only go into the green bins in kitchens and canteens.

Every correctly sorted item helps us reduce our carbon footprint and move closer to our net zero goals.

Sustainability in action

Every item sorted correctly in our bins means less waste to landfill, lower carbon emissions, and a cleaner environment for us all. By working together, we can make a measurable difference. We’ll be sharing updates on the positive impact of these changes, from the amount of waste recycled to the progress we’re making towards our wider sustainability goals.
