This Applied Science AAQ Level 3 Extended Certificate is equivalent to one A Level. It must be taken alongside Environmental Science A Level and with one of the following: Geography, Geology or Product Design.
It is designed for students who want to develop applied knowledge and skills in science and it includes the study of biology, chemistry and physics through four mandatory units.
You will explore cells and tissues, biological molecules and enzymes, atomic structure and bonding, and key physics ideas such as waves, forces, motion and electrical circuits. Practical work is central, developing laboratory skills such as chromatography, colorimetry, titration, calibration and safe working practices. You will also complete one optional unit, choosing either Scientific Investigation Skills, focused on planning, carrying out and evaluating an investigative project, or Contemporary Issues in Science, which develops your ability to evaluate the reliability and validity of scientific information.
