Course information

In this course you will learn about many aspects of music production, learning practical techniques of how to produce music as well as some of the fundamental theories behind the technologies used. You will be taught how to use the recording equipment in the college music studio, sequencing techniques and how to use Logic Pro software to edit, mix and master audio. The skills will be taught through a series of workshops throughout the course.

Music Technology combines well with Maths, Physics, ICT/Computing, Media Studies and other arts and technology subjects. Music and Music Technology may be studied as separate courses. The study of music technology offers a wide range of transferable skills that will promote broader opportunities for students taking this subject.

    20% Recording (coursework completed in 2nd year), 20% Technology based composition (coursework completed in 2nd year), 25% Listening and Analysing exam at end of course, 35% Producing and Analysing exam at end of course.

A Level Music Technology is a highly regarded subject by universities and employers alike. It can be a useful course to progress on to other Arts, Technology and Media courses at university, and can ultimately lead to a range of exciting career options, including becoming a professional musician, a sound technician, music therapist, teacher, or private tutor. Jobs that are less directly related to Music Technology, but where a Music or other degree could be very valuable, include work in radio, theatre and events management.
