Entry requirements

  • All students will be expected to have GCSE maths and English Language qualifications at grade C or above (grade 4) or equivalent.
  • Appropriate accredited Level 3 qualifications (for example Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and learning)
  • Be working or volunteering as a teaching assistant for at least 12 hours per week. 
  • Have experience of working as a teaching assistant within an educational setting.
  • Letter of support from your Headteacher
  • Current enhanced DBS check.
  • Successful completion of interview

Course information

This course provides advanced training for teaching assistants who want to progress to Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) status. It focuses on supporting students with additional needs, planning lessons, and working effectively within the classroom.

Designed for those currently employed in a teaching assistant role, the qualification helps develop the skills and understanding needed to support individual learners and small groups, including those with special educational needs.

You will study one evening per week in college and complete 12 hours of work placement per week.
