16-18 Courses, 16-18: T Levels

Science with Laboratory Technician Specialism (T Level)

Course Overview

Entry requirements

T levels are set at a high level 3 qualification standard, with significant and challenging content and externally assessed exams. This is not only classroom based, but employer project and industry placement (and is widely described to be more like a level 3.5). The amount and level of written work required means that it would not be possible to achieve the qualification without a strong standard of English writing.

Enrolment on an T Level programme requires a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades 9 - 4, including English and maths.

Course information

This course provides a strong foundation in health and science with a minimum of nine weeks working with an employer on an industry placement. It’s suitable for anyone interested in a science career and combines core scientific theory with practical skills and sector understanding. Alongside the core content, you will choose a technical science specialism to tailor your studies.

T Levels are highly specialised, career-focused qualifications designed in collaboration with employers to meet the needs of industry. They combine classroom learning with a substantial work placement, giving you real experience and practical skills. Each T Level is equivalent to three A Levels and provides a direct route into university, higher apprenticeships or skilled employment.

If you don’t yet meet the entry requirements for a T Level, we have a range of options to help you achieve your goals. When you come to enrol, our curriculum team will advise you on the best pathway for your next step.

This includes our new AAQ courses, which allow you to study at Level 3 while retaking English and/or maths. Once you’ve achieved the grades you need, you can progress onto a T Level, giving you a clear route to higher-level study and your future career.
