This Entry Level course is a vocational Foundation Learning qualification which is primarily designed to engage and motivate 14 to 19-year-olds who are interested in learning about the maintenance of motor vehicles and the various roles that are available in the motor industry. There are no formal entry requirements for the course, which is open to anyone aged 14 and over, who is interested in gaining multi-skills and a nationally-recognised qualification for the motor vehicle industry.

On this course there is a combination of mandatory and optional units which provides students with the flexibility of achieving and progressing in small manageable steps. There is a practical approach to assessment which includes many visual questioning techniques, which builds interest for the student. The majority of the course takes place in a practical environment with workshop tools and equipment.

You can expect to build skills and techniques in the following areas:

  • Routine Cooling and Lubrication System Checks
  • Routine Braking System Checks
  • Routine Wheel and Tyre Checks
  • Routine Vehicle Checks
  • Basic Vehicle Valeting
  • Light Vehicle Construction
  • Principles of Engine Components and Operation
  • Principles of Light Vehicle Steering and Suspension Systems
  • Principles of Component Fitting

You will also develop an understanding of motor vehicle workshop safety and will learn about the retail automotive maintenance and repair industry.

English and Maths will also be studied alongside this course.

    You will be assessed through one online test and a practical demonstration of your individual abilities.

What Can This Course Lead To

You could progress onto a Level 1 course within the motor vehicle department, or employment opportunities could include Entry Level work or an apprenticeship within an auto repair shop or similar automotive company.
