Course information

This qualification is for learners who want a career in bench joinery within the construction sector. You will develop safe working practices and essential knowledge of building construction, materials, sustainability, and effective workplace communication. Practical workshop training includes setting up and operating a circular saw safely, changing blades, supporting materials correctly, and understanding timber, manufactured boards and common defects.

You will learn to interpret drawings, specifications and schedules to produce accurate setting out details for joinery items such as doors, frames, staircases, linings and units. You will then build marking out skills, select appropriate tools and materials, and produce accurate joints and sections. The course also covers manufacturing, assembling and finishing bench joinery products using hand tools, portable power tools and machinery, working efficiently and to specification. This qualification forms the technical certificate for the Construction Building Apprenticeship Framework.

What Can This Course Lead To

This qualification supports progression into employment as a bench joiner and forms the technical certificate for the Construction Building Apprenticeship Framework. It can also support progression to further City and Guilds qualifications such as the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations and the Level 3 Diploma in Bench Joinery.
