Holly takes to the skies for mental health charity Mind

Brave sixth former Holly Brooker is planning a skydive to raise money for mental health charity Mind.

Holly, 17, who studies A Levels at New City College’s Havering Sixth Form campus in Wingletye Lane, Hornchurch, decided to face her fears and take the plunge because the charity is close to her heart.

She said: “I’m doing the skydive because over the last year or so, many people have suffered from mental health issues due to the lockdowns and other reasons, including myself and people close to me in my life.

“I think it’s important that everyone knows that there is someone to talk to and we aren’t alone. This charity has helped me and some of my relatives so much. Luckily I was able to overcome my issues because I had great support from the friends and family around me, but not everyone has that option. Mind helps reassure people facing mental health problems that they are not alone.”

Holly is campaigning hard to raise the £500 needed to join the skydive which will take place in Maidstone, Kent and has created a Go Fund Me page here.

She added: “I am excited to do this amazing thing for charity and to have the opportunity to help people. I am also nervous – but knowing that it’s for a good reason allows me to overcome this fear. I’m doing the skydive by myself and in honour of myself, my friends, family and anyone else who has or is experiencing mental health problems.

“It would mean so much to me if anyone is able to donate on my Go Fund Me page here. to support the charity and help those who need it most.”
