Students embrace nature theme for Mental Health Awareness week

New City College marked Mental Health Awareness week with a series of activities and drop-in sessions for students.

The theme of the national event was based on ‘nature’ and looking at how nature can improve your mental health and well-being, and this was reflected in campus activities that students were able to take part in.

At Havering Sixth Form campus in Wingletye Lane, Hornchurch, students enjoyed a Virtual Reality Nature Experience looking at The Northern Lights, with one saying it was a very calming and relaxing experience.

There was also a ‘design your own nature bag’ activity and a Tree of Hope where students posted messages of hope and encouragement, such as Be kind to yourself and It’s ok to make mistakes.

At all campuses, students were able to visit stalls where there were leaflets and advice posters with lots of Mental Health information and support details.

NCC also offered extra drop-in mental health sessions during the college assessment week for those students stressed or anxious about their exams.
