Talented students take top prize in Young Enterprise competition

A team of Creative Arts students from New City College Tower Hamlets were awarded first place in a Young Enterprise Business Competition, held at Greenwich Market.

The group’s innovative business – Eco-Ignation – was named Best Overall Company 2025!

The judges were impressed with the team’s eco-friendly fire logs, securing them the top prize in a tough competition that saw some strong entries from colleges across London and the southeast region.

This victory marks yet another success for Eco-Ignation, who had already gained recognition earlier this year when they won the Most Inspired Team 2025 award at Spitalfields Market.

The Eco-Ignation team worked hard on developing their unique product – fire logs made from wood shavings, used coffee grounds, dried orange peel, and shredded office paper. Their eco-conscious approach to business and sustainability struck a chord with both customers and judges alike.

The students set up an eye-catching trade stand at Greenwich Market, engaging with shoppers and showcasing their brand’s core message: ‘Ignite your fire with Eco-Ignation. Love the Earth’.

Throughout the day, their entrepreneurial skills were put to the test, as top business professionals assessed their product, sales strategy, and teamwork. Their commitment to sustainability, strong business acumen, and passion for their product ultimately secured them the title of Best Overall Company.

Following their success at Greenwich Market, Eco-Ignation is now preparing to take their business to even greater heights as they head to the Inner East London Area Showcase Finals at Clifford Chance next month.

Mags Doyle, Creative Arts teacher at New City College Tower Hamlets, said she was very proud of the students’ achievements.

She said: “The team’s journey with the Young Enterprise project has been a fantastic learning experience for them. They were judged by some top business professionals over the course of the day’s trading and these experts were very impressed with their brilliant, sustainable product.

“Their hard work, determination and creativity has been inspiring, and we are excited to see how they perform in the next stage of the competition.”
