Tottenham Hotspur development centre to launch in Havering

The Tottenham Hotspur Football Development Centre has linked up with New City College to launch an academy for students at Havering Sixth Form campus from September.

Students studying Sport courses at the college in Wingletye Lane, Hornchurch, will be able to train up to three times a week with Tottenham Hotspur Global Football Development and Academy coaches. They will also get to play competitive matches in local and national league competitions every Wednesday as part of their study programme.

The launch of the Tottenham Hotspur Football Development Centre at Havering builds on an already successful partnership between the club and New City College.

From September 2021 the Football Development Centre programme will be offered at five NCC campuses across London and Essex – Epping Forest, Redbridge, Hackney, Tower Hamlets and now Havering.

Across NCC, around 300 young sports men and women, aged 16 to 19, will be able to join the programme and will benefit from professional training, sports industry preparation and work experience alongside studying for a BTEC qualification in Sport.

The Tottenham Hotspur Global Football Development team help students on the course reach their full potential by providing authentic coaching methods developed within the club’s academy. As part of the programme, the coaches monitor each player individually, giving them the opportunity to learn and develop their skills so they can play attacking football with the flair, fluidity and passion that are the hallmarks of the club.

Paul Griffiths, Tottenham Hotspur Football Development Centre Programme Head Coach, said: “We are delighted to be adding the Havering Sixth Form campus to our ever-growing and successful programme.

“We’ve already seen great levels of talent and success in our current NCC trainees. We’re delighted that even more footballers across the New City College group will now be able to take part in the opportunities of the development programme.”

Molly, a current student on the programme, said: “The Tottenham Hotspur Development Centre has been a great opportunity for me. I have been able to work alongside professional coaches and gain valuable experience from them. I have also enjoyed being a part of the Coaching Excellence Centre as it has helped me develop and improve my coaching skills.”
