Fatima says that studying the Higher National Certificate in Applied Science at New City College Redbridge  ignited her future dreams and enabled her to progress to study Biomedical Science at the University of East London.

We are proud of what she has achieved considering she was also working part-time while she was studying and had a young family to take care of.

She said: “Studying, looking after my family and working as an administrator for a travel company was quite hard, however, balancing it all was manageable if I was organised, and it was all worth it in the end.

“The teaching was excellent on the HNC course. The classes were fairly small and taught by knowledgeable lecturers who were available any time we needed.”

More than 20 years ago, Fatima had completed her initial studies in Bangladesh. Now living in the UK, she decided to take on the challenge of the Applied Science course in order to gain a higher-level qualification within a subject that she was passionate about, and to help her gain access to the many different career options within the sector.

Fatima added: “The course gave me in-depth knowledge and allowed me to take my own approach on the units and to focus more on what I wanted to do.

“The lab skills have given me more confidence in adhering to laboratory procedures, utilising laboratory equipment, and carrying out experiments correctly. The course has also taught me a variety of new skills, such as scientific data management, calculation and laboratory report writing.

“Overall, I believe that studying at NCC has increased my awareness of the biological world and ignited my future dreams by providing me with insight into the different ways I can progress.”

Fatima had excellent attendance and was a conscientious student and thoroughly deserves her success.
