Course information

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in IT is a two-year course for students who have passed the Level 2 qualification and are interested in learning about the Information Technology and Computing sector. It assesses students' understanding of IT through vocational scenarios and a majority of coursework. This course is usually taken alongside GCSE English and GCSE Maths.

The course is designed to support students who are interested in learning about computing, with a view to progressing to a range of other courses, an apprenticeship or employment.

The course uses a combination of assessment styles to give students the confidence to apply their knowledge to succeed in the workplace or to continue learning. It allows students to gain fundamental knowledge and skills in all aspects of information technology from which they can progress to broader or more specialist study.

What Can This Course Lead To

Progress to further study at college and then to university, an apprenticeship or employment.

This course is usually studied by students who have already achieved the Level 2 qualification in Information Technology and it is often studied alongside GCSE English and Maths. It will lead you to study either the AAQ in Computing or you could progress to one of the T Levels on offer within the IT and Computing department within New City College. The course also enables students to develop the knowledge and skills needed for jobs related to this sector, including vocational apprenticeships and trainee roles.
