Course information

The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Music Industry Skills has been designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to access and progress to Level 3 study. The qualification will suit students who have an interest in music performance and/or music production who wish to explore and extend this interest via a full-time, immersive learning experience. Many students will have identified a specific career in the creative industries that they wish to progress to (for example performer, songwriter, producer, engineer).

The course offers an exciting project-based approach where you will develop your musical/technical skills alongside like-minded musicians culminating in professional, industry-relevant outcomes that will form a portfolio of work to prepare you for Level 3 study. We're proud of our community of musicians and creative artists and you'll be encouraged to collaborate with other courses to deliver an industry-like experience. We will support your development as either a performer or producer in a range of areas.

  • Introduction to Performance and Production
  • Exploring Music Composition
  • Music Production Skills and Practice
  • Instrument Skills Development
  • Sound Engineering

You will also undertake a final end of year project that will allow you to utilise the various skills acquired throughout the course. This Level 2 Music Industry Skills Extended Certificate is equivalent to 2 GCSEs.

Students will study an English and/or Maths qualification alongside the course if they have not previously achieved a grade 4 in GCSE English Language and/or Maths.

What Can This Course Lead To

Successful students can progress to our Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Music, Level 3 Media Production courses or the course can be used as a foundation to progress to other subjects at Level 3. You may decide to seek an apprenticeship in the music and creative industry and career options, after further study, could include jobs in the music industry and also in areas such as media, film and television, acoustics and events/music management.
