Entry requirements

Enrolment on an A Level programme requires a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades 9 - 4, including English and maths.

Specific criteria for this subject:
  • A minimum average point score of 4.25
  • Grade 5 English Language GCSE; Grade 5 Maths GCSE; Audition required

Course information

In this course you will learn about many aspects of music production, learning practical techniques of how to produce music as well as some of the fundamental theories behind the technologies used. You will be taught how to use the recording equipment in the college music studio, sequencing techniques and how to use Logic Pro software to edit, mix and master audio. The skills will be taught through a series of workshops throughout the course.

Music Technology A Level must be studied alongside two other A Levels or alongside one other A Level and one Level 3 Extended Certificate/AAQ. It combines well with Maths, Physics, IT, Computer Science, Media Studies and other arts and technology subjects. The study of music technology offers a wide range of transferable skills that will promote broader opportunities for students taking this subject.

What Can This Course Lead To

Progress to university, further study or employment.

A Level Music Technology is a highly regarded subject by universities and employers alike. It can be a useful course to progress on to other Arts, Technology and Media courses at university, and can ultimately lead to a range of exciting career options, including becoming a professional musician, a sound technician, music therapist, teacher, or private tutor. Jobs that are less directly related to Music Technology, but where a Music or other degree could be very valuable, include work in radio, theatre and events management.
