Beauty student Ruby all set for exciting WorldSkills UK Finals

Good luck to New City College Beauty Therapy student Ruby Gigg who has won through to the WorldSkills UK National Finals and will be travelling to Manchester next week to compete against other exceptional students.

Ruby, who studies Level 3 Beauty Therapy Techniques at NCC Epping Forest Campus, came top in her regional competition and will now go up against the best talent in the UK at the finals taking place from November 19-22, 2024.

This is the fourth year in a row that New City College is represented at the highly-regarded finals – and the first time in Beauty Therapy. Only two other London colleges have students who have made it through.

Ruby started her journey to success on the Level 1 Hair and Beauty qualification at Epping Forest Campus, progressing to Level 2 and then this year to Level 3.

Carly Lethaby, Senior Curriculum Manager for Hair and Beauty at Epping Forest Campus said: “Ruby has been a conscientious student from the moment she joined the course. She has a natural aptitude with her practical skills and always performs treatments to the highest standard, getting fantastic feedback from her clients.

“She completed her work placement in a beauty salon and impressed the owner so much with her positive attitude and skills, that she was offered a part-time job on the spot!

“In preparation for the Finals, Ruby has been practising hard in class and her experience of working in a commercial salon has also helped her to perfect her timings. We are all wishing her the best of luck in Manchester.”
