Double celebration for NCC and the London Lions!

The New City College London Lions basketball academy has recently been enjoying a double celebration with two former Hackney campus students in the spotlight!

The first proud moment was when outstanding player Remy Udeh was crowned the Hoopsfix Allstar dunk contest champion 2024 (pictured below), and the second was when Aaron Badibo returned from playing in the USA to sign his first professional contract in the UK with the London Lions.

It is the second year in a row that the Lions have been successful in the Hoopsfix Dunk contest, having taken the title last year with another former NCC student, Josiah Philip – now also playing in the USA. Both players were selected as one of the top 24 under 19 players in the country, in their respective years.

Remy studied Electrical Installation with New City College and was talent spotted by NCC Basketball Director, coach and former Lions player, Andre Lockhart. He became part of the NCC Basketball Development Programme, created in partnership with the London Lions Academy, and got his call-up to the men’s team in the 23-24 season, giving him a big leap towards his future professional career.

Remy, a guard known for his athleticism and his work ethic at both ends of the court, has signed again for the 24-25 season with the London Lions.

He said: “My call up and transition into the men’s programme was a great experience. It challenged me and taught me a lot within a short amount of time. Playing with such talented guys has given me a good insight into what my career could look like. I am happy I have signed with the London Lions Academy for a second year.”

Welcoming Aaron Badibo back from the USA has been another boost for the Academy. Aaron played at Malone University in Ohio and says it was a fantastic experience.

He said: “I’m excited to start this new chapter of my basketball career, especially it being back home where it all started. I am grateful for all the experiences and support I’ve had along the way, and my time in the United States perfecting my craft. This is just the beginning and I am ready for all the challenges ahead. Thank you to all who believed in me. I can’t wait to continue growing.”

Andre Lockhart said: “We are proud of both these players and their progression within the game. During the last few months New City College hosted three NBA players and our students got to meet, connect and train with them.

“It is something I wanted them to experience – to be around and work with these high-level athletes. They gained valuable knowledge and experience but also saw that they are normal people who have worked hard to get where they are.”
