Higher Education students honoured at Graduation

Graduates from New City College’s Ardleigh Green and Rainham campuses in Havering were honoured at a presentation held at the picturesque Orsett Hall on Monday 27th September.

Over 160 graduate Higher Education students were presented with certificates in a fabulous ceremony attended by friends and family.

Principal Janet Smith addressed the audience saying: “The graduation ceremony is the highlight of the College’s higher education calendar when, together, we celebrate the achievements of our students. Today’s graduates have worked hard to achieve something very special, and many have balanced their studies with busy family lives and demanding jobs.”

She told the students: “Looking back at what you’ve done to get here you will remember the long nights of study, the frustration when technology lets you down and the joy or relief of passing assessments. Looking to the future, now is a time to think about what is next and how you can build on this success.

“It may be a new job or further study but, whatever it is we hope you will act as an inspiration to others to aspire to what you have achieved – to change their lives through the power of education and to develop the skills of lifelong learners.”

Degrees and qualifications in courses such as Human Resource Management, Construction & the Built Environment, Early Years, Education & Care, Education & Professional Practice, MA Critical Studies & Education, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Health & Social Care, Integrative Counselling, Social Studies, Social Work, Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools and the Professional Graduate Certificate of Education PGCE were presented to students.

The guest speaker was Sharon Smith, an alumni of the College, who graduated in 2015 with a BA (Hons) in Social Work. Sharon is now Team Manager in Adult Social Care at Essex County Council.

Dr Mark Smithers, the College’s Dean of Higher Education welcomed guests to the ceremony, and the closing address was made by New City College Group Principal and CEO Gerry McDonald.
