One Million Mentors partnership builds confidence in Business students

New City College has partnered with One Million Mentors to support students becoming the best versions of themselves.

One Million Mentors is a community-based mentoring programme that provides one-to-one mentoring to help shape young people into who they want to be, and gives them the encouragement to reach their goals and ambitions.

Business students at New City College’s Tower Hamlets Campus have benefited from the scheme, with many saying that the one-to-one guidance and support has boosted their confidence and improved their motivation.

Around 15 volunteers from a variety of sectors such as business, consulting, accountancy, banking, marketing and advertising visited NCC Tower Hamlets in Poplar this year to help give the 1:1 mentoring experience.

New City College has partnered with the One Million Mentors programme to support Level 3 BTEC Business students becoming the best versions of themselves.

Emran, who studied Level 3 Business BTEC, said: “The One Million Mentorship programme has been a transformative experience, and I am thankful for the positive impact it has had on my personal and professional development.”

The programme is designed to build relationships between mentor and mentee – free of assumption and judgement – where they can benefit from one another’s experience and perspective.

Students have found they can think bigger, find their own answers and take the next meaningful step into their future.

Emran’s Story

“I am incredibly grateful for the guidance and support I received from my mentor through the One Million Mentorship programme. Their expertise and dedication have been instrumental in helping me improve my skills and achieve my personal and professional goals. From the very beginning, my mentor provided insightful advice and practical strategies tailored to my specific needs.

“Their constructive feedback and encouragement boosted my confidence and motivated me to tackle challenges head-on. With their help, I have developed stronger problem-solving abilities, enhanced my communication skills, and learned to approach tasks with a strategic mindset. The regular check-ins and detailed discussions ensured that I stayed on track and continuously progressed.

“Moreover, my mentor’s ability to share real-world experiences and industry knowledge has been invaluable, offering me a deeper understanding of the field and preparing me for future opportunities.”
