Former New City College Tower Hamlets student, Aifa, has just been offered the role of Curriculum Administrator for Business & Computing at New City College, Tower Hamlets campus.
This was the faculty where she studied when attending the college and she said: “I am proud to work for the college which helped me to succeed this far.”
Aifa graduated from University College London this year with a 2:1 in Information Management for Business.
She joined college in 2015 from George Green and began studying A Levels. However, she quickly decided that A Levels didn’t suit her and so changed her programme to the Level 3 in Information Technology, which she claims was still a challenge, but the assessment and learning style worked much better for her as an individual. She achieved a fantastic D*D*D!
Aifa said about her time at college: “I couldn’t have achieved the grades I did without the help and support from my teacher. The BTEC course allowed me to learn in a much more practical way, which provided a more real-life understanding.
“College prepared me for university by supporting me not only with assignment writing, but also with my personal development. The guidance and encouragement shown by my lecturers and other staff enabled me to recognise my full potential.
“I enjoyed the fact that college is very different to school in that you are studying something that you are passionate about with other like-minded learners. I also enjoyed being able to use the wide range of facilities, such as the Learning Resource Centre to support my studies, and working with my personal tutor.”
She explained: “The highlights from my time at college were achieving the IT Student of the Year certificate in 2017, which was presented to me by the college Principal and having the opportunity to participate in ad-hoc jobs for the college, such as helping out during summer enrolment as a Student Ambassador.”
Whilst attending New City College, Aifa was a team leader in the Student Ambassador programme and played an integral part in this year’s enrolment, including setting up and organising other ambassadors (which came with many new challenges).
We will be giving her a warm welcome back to the NCC team when she starts her new role in January 2021!
