Student teaches the Master-chef!

Talented New City College trainee chef, Paulo Dela Cruz, shared his passion and knowledge of Japanese cooking with former NCC student and semi-finalist of MasterChef: The Professionals 2020, Victor Okunowo, on his Thursday take over.

Paulo, studying Level 3 Diploma in Professional Cookery, took traditional Japanese dishes and flavours and gave them a modern twist at our OKN1 restaurant at the Hackney campus.

Not only did Victor further his knowledge of Japanese cuisine, but he was on hand every step of the way to support the cooking and presentation of Paulo’s food.

He then shared his knowledge and advised the students on different ways to plate dishes.

Victor, now Executive Chef at Bori Table, cooks elaborate food using influences from around the world and diverse ingredients. His current project involves delivering a private and intimate Supper Club dining experience for small groups.

He said it was an honour to come back to college to help out and he was inspired by the hard work of our talented students.

Every Thursday (during term time) our students take over in OKN1. Your £25 three course dinner menu is created, prepared and served by our amazing trainee chefs. Check out Samuel Paoli’s ‘Taste of Italy’ menu on Thursday 3rd February.
