Students raise hundreds for Hope 4 Havering charity

Business students at New City College Havering raised a fantastic £400 when they organised a fun event for charity.

The students, all studying the Introduction to Business Level 1 Diploma at the Ardleigh Green campus, in Hornchurch, made hampers and cards and ran raffles and competitions.

They have donated the money raised to the Hope 4 Havering charity which is a collective of local churches, businesses and individuals working to end homelessness in the borough.

The organisation of the event counted towards one of the units on their Business course.

Deputy Principal Ian Budge, who picked the winning tickets for the raffles and competitions, said: “These Business students have conducted some excellent work. They have gone above and beyond to raise an exceptional amount for such a worthwhile charity.

“Young people often get a bad reputation in our communities, normally at the expense of a very small minority. What I have seen in talking to the students about their project and looking at the work they have done, is that we have some very kind and socially aware young people at our college.

“They have worked on behalf of people less fortunate than themselves and they are a credit to their families, the college and most importantly, to themselves.”

Course tutor, Angela Ayettey, said the event was a great success and thanked all staff, but particularly Ian Budge for taking time out of his busy day to support the students.
