Women’s football team competes with the best at National Championships 2024

New City College’s Tottenham Hotspur Women’s Football Team won through their regional heats to reach the finals of the Association of Colleges (AoC) National Championships 2024, which took place at the University of Nottingham.

The players, who are all part of NCC’s Education and Tottenham Hotspur Football Development Programme, did themselves and the college proud with their performances against very tough, UK-wide opposition.

Footballer Ella Turner said: “It was honestly such a great experience playing against the top 10 best college teams in the UK. To get to play at this high level was just amazing.”

The squad travelled up to Nottingham and stayed overnight for the 2-day tournament. As well as playing in the matches, they also had training sessions, team talks and tactics meetings.

Ella, who attends NCC Havering Sixth Form to study Level 3 BTEC Sport with the Tottenham Hotspur pathway, added: “The whole experience was so much fun. We had the chance to bond as a team and to also grow as players. I can’t wait for next year to hopefully get this amazing opportunity again.”

The National Championships are a celebration of competitive sport in colleges, providing recognition, enjoyment and a unique opportunity for young people to compete. With over 1,500 college students taking part, the Championships are the largest annual FE student sporting event in Europe.

College teams and individuals compete in a wide range of sports including Football, Badminton, Netball, Hockey and Volleyball. They can qualify to represent their college at the Championships through regional tournaments hosted throughout the academic year by AoC Sport.

Congratulations to our players for giving 100 per cent and reaching this prestigious tournament to play against some top opposition – and for being exceptional representatives of New City College!
