Our amazing Supported Internship Programme student Reece Cekaj is working at the Co-op Group after being recognised for his excellent work during a temporary placement.
Within a few months, Reece was offered the permanent position because managers were so impressed with his work ethic.
During his working day Reece, who attends our SEND and Foundation Learning centre at New City College Havering Sixth Form campus, helps with sorting out the deliveries and stocking the shelves, making sure that all products are rotated regularly.
New City College Facilitator and Job Coach, Julie Ettridge, who has supported Reece on his course, said: “He is an amazing student who always gives 110 per cent at every opportunity. As well as helping with the deliveries and shelves, he will be learning how to use the tills and will get an insight into how the Co-op shops are run.
“Reece has told me he is enjoying his work and his managers have told me that he is very well-liked within the team and he always works hard.
“We are very proud of Reece and what he has achieved.”
Supported Internships are a structured, work-based study programme for 16 to 24-year-olds with SEND, who have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan. The core aim of a Supported Internship study programme is a substantial work placement, facilitated by the support of an expert job coach.
