Ronnie

Ronnie studied Level 3 Electrical Installation at Rainham Construction and Engineering campus and he loved it. He is now hoping to secure an Apprenticeship in the electrical industry. Here he answers our Q&A about his time at college.

Tell us about your education journey – what and where did you study before coming to NCC?

I went to Goresbrook School but after getting my GCSE results in 2021 I still wasn’t sure what I wanted to do next, so I thought I’d try a trade. I enrolled for the Level 2 Electrical Installation at New City College Rainham and wasn’t expecting to enjoy it much, but I loved it thanks to my lecturers! When I was told only 35 people will progress to the Level 3 course I was nervous but I gave it my best and I was proud to have made it to Level 3!

What are your plans for next steps?

I want to either progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Esports at NCC Redbridge or try to get an Apprenticeship in the electrical trade.

What’s your ambition in life?

Since I was 9 I have wanted to be a successful YouTuber – and I still want to now! I am currently managing an Esports organisation and my ambition is to grow and develop this. But in general, I want to try and really make a difference in the world. Even if it’s a small change, I want the world to be a better place for the next generation to come.

What is the most interesting thing you’ve learned on your course?

I found the design projects really enjoyable and interesting. You had to use equations and the regulation books to identify problems and then work out the reason why, and how to find a solution.

How did New City College help you achieve?

I haven’t been the type of person in life who can talk to others easily, unless I know them. New City College has helped me with this. I am now able to lead a team and build it through good communication. The teachers have helped me achieve my qualifications by explaining everything in depth so I could understand. I was then able to help my classmates and we improved by working with and helping each other.

What values are most important to you?

I believe you need to have courage and you need to take risks, even if that leads to mistakes. It’s the best way to learn. Kindness is a standard value that everyone should have, even at difficult times. Kindness finds a way to pay you back. Also patience, honesty and integrity are important values to me.

What is the biggest change you wish to see in the world?

Equality – not just for people and their genders, but for those with disabilities and learning difficulties.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

When you know better, do better.

If you could go back in time, what would you tell your 15-year-old self?

Never forget how hard you worked to get where you are today. Just keep going, no matter what.

What makes you feel positive?

My friends and family and also when I make content on social media.

Who is your favourite teacher and why?

It’s hard to pick one teacher. I liked Gary because he was funny and helped me a lot on the science part of the course, but I also liked my other teacher Michael because the way he taught me was so helpful and easy to understand and that made me enjoy doing the challenging parts of the course.

What is the best thing about New City College?

The teachers, definitely! I studied at New City College for 2 years and both academic years I enjoyed because of my teachers and other members of staff.

If you had three wishes, what would they be?

1 To be immortal

2 To have infinite money so I can help other people

3 I would like my E-sports team to succeed
