Early Years Practitioner adult student Rosa Loosemore has shown that with perseverance and determination, you can succeed!

Rosa, aged 25, has just been presented with a Student of the Month award by Bright Horizons Nursery, which has around 300 nurseries and pre-schools across the UK. Rosa is carrying out her work placement at the Crouch End Fields site.

Her inspiring journey has seen her grow and develop through dedication, commitment, support and hard work.

Rosa had studied the Level 1 Early Years qualification at a different college. But, facing personal challenges such as autism and low confidence, she had found it difficult to secure any kind of employment.

Determined to create a brighter future for herself, she joined New City College Hackney Campus in September 2024, enrolling on the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Diploma for adults, with the hope of getting better qualified and having more chance of finding work in the sector she loved.

Since the beginning of her course, her time at college has been transformative! With unwavering support from her tutors, Rosa began to rebuild her confidence and self-esteem.

She said: “I have had fantastic support from all my tutors at college. They have helped make my confidence grow again and now receiving this award has given me another boost to push myself even further!

“I was surprised to receive this student placement award so soon after starting my course. Bright Horizons Nursery and NCC have helped me so much and I can’t wait to see where my career goes from here.”

Katy, a team member from Bright Horizons Crouch End Fields Day Nursery, said everyone had noticed Rosa’s dedication to the job and she had made a lasting impression.

Katy added: “Rosa deserves this recognition. Since she has started working with us, she has made herself part of the team. The children have enjoyed taking part in activities and playing with Rosa – to the point where if she isn’t in, the children ask where she is.

“She gets stuck in with all the daily activities and has picked up the routine quickly. If any staff members are busy, Rosa will use her initiative to see what needs to be done and she does it without being asked. We love having Rosa in the room and can tell she is going to be an amazing practitioner once she is fully qualified.”

Rosa’s story is testament to how resilience and support can empower students to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

Congratulations to Rosa!
