Health and Social Care (Level 1)

Course Overview

Entry requirements

Three or more GCSEs at Grade 2 including:

  • GCSE English Language and maths at Grade 2 (or equivalent)
  • Successful completion of Entry 3, and appropriate recommendation report

Course information

By studying this qualification you will gain an insight and learn about job roles and the many different areas that you can work within the Health and Social Care sector.

The subject areas could include:

  • starting work in health and social care
  • developing skills in health and social care
  • personal effectiveness
  • social responsibility at work
  • financial management
  • looking after children
  • images of people
  • health and the environment
  • exploring local services

Teaching is classroom-based with a 2-3 week block placement at the end of the course in a day nursery or preschool. There is a placement coordinator who allocates placements in health and social care or childcare settings.

  • How you are assessed

    You will have one assignment per unit which will be assessed.
  • Why study at NCC?

    This is a full-time Level 1 qualification which provides you with an introduction to the knowledge and skills needed to work with people of all ages within the Health and Social Care sector or within the Childcare sector.

What Can This Course Lead To

Successful students can progress onto either the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner or Level 2 in Health and Social Care or an alternative Level 2 course within the college.
