This course will offer you the opportunity to develop the conceptual, technical and critical skills required to succeed in the creative industries. You will become an innovative and experimental artist/maker and critical thinker. You will be encouraged to explore innovative ways of using a range of media and processes, including print-making, sculpture, photography and time-based media.

You can expect to:

  • Build an individualised portfolio of wide ranging practical work
  • Explore a variety of media and develop an ability to express observations and ideas in visual form
  • Participate in trips to galleries and work with professional artists
  • Develop analytical skills and knowledge of critical and contemporary issues in Art and Design

The course is designed to be flexible and suit the needs of the individual student. It may be studied alongside any of our creative courses, including Photography, Graphics or any of the Creative Media courses. Analytical courses such as Philosophy, Sociology and Government and Politics are also complementary.

Throughout this course you will have the opportunity to develop your individual creativity through the application of technology and hand-made approaches. Whilst on the course you will explore the possibilities of not only what does art mean? But also what can art do? And where can art be? This course provides wide-ranging opportunities for those with an enthusiasm for visual art, and suits people with imagination, self-discipline and an enquiring mind. After induction, you will undertake a range of individualised projects focussing on areas that are of personal interest to you.
