This is a one year course and is designed to stimulate interest and encourage the learners understanding of the skills and knowledge needed to care for young children. It is aimed at a range of learners, including young people needing to develop life skills as well as those who are thinking of working in childcare.
It is also suitable for parents who wish to develop parenting skills, mature learners with special educational needs, or where English is an additional language.You will be expected to attend college three days per week. Students on the course will learn through independent and group study, role-play, creative and practical work, educational visits, and homework.
The course looks at the influences on a childs development and gives you the skills to provide effective play and practical activities in a range of early years services. You will also look at group childcare organisations as well as the home care environment. Please note that English, maths and ICT functional skills are a compulsory part of this course.
