Course information

The course offers students a specialist pathway designed to support progression into relevant occupational areas or onto a degree programme.

We have a special partnership with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club which means that their Global Football Development staff will provide expert support to the HNC practical coaching modules in collaboration with New City College's Higher Education tutors.

Inspired by the Tottenham Hotspurs Academy, our staff will share insight into our football development philosophy with students in order to support those who have aspirations to pursue a career within coaching and/or sport alongside the HNC training and games programme.

This bespoke programme will provide holistic and technical support to students in order to develop the qualities and attributes needed to be a successful coach through the combination of their academic studies and specialised mentoring from Global Football Development coaches.

Through practical-based learning, students will enhance their knowledge and understanding of a range of topics that support coaching practice.

Additionally, for selected individuals, there will be a chance to undertake further mentoring opportunities within our Coaching Excellence Centre programme to shadow Academy staff - as well as the opportunity for selected students to gain casual employment on the Tottenham Hotspur Global Football Development programme.

The college runs a flexible model that gives each student the choice to stay and develop for as long as they want to get the qualification they desire (unlike a university where you may need to commit to a full three-year term).

Course units include:

  • Nutrition (15 credits)
  • Fundamentals of Sport and Exercise Psychology (15 credits)

It is a perfect qualification for students looking to progress from full-time Level 3 study, and for those who are already employed within the sports sector and are looking to extend their knowledge to progress their career.

This stimulating and challenging programme of study has been designed in conjunction with industry leaders and provides the core elements for successful career progression in the sport and active leisure industry. It is run as a full-time, hybrid learning course with a combination of face-to-face delivery, work-based learning and independent study.
