Launch of cutting-edge immersive video labs with virtual reality technology

New City College (NCC) is excited to announce the launch of state-of-the-art immersive video labs equipped with the latest virtual reality (VR) technology. This development is a result of a substantial £400k investment aimed at enhancing the educational experience across a variety of courses.

The newly established immersive labs will serve students enrolled in diverse programmes such as solar panel installation, electrical installation, and health and social care. The advanced VR materials and high-spec technology will significantly enrich the learning environment, providing students with hands-on, immersive experiences that are at the forefront of educational innovation.

These labs, funded by the Local London Skills Improvement Fund, are designed as adaptable spaces to accommodate different classes and course content. Key features include high-definition linked-up screens, tracking cameras, and the latest Meta 3 Oculus VR headsets.

These resources will also facilitate real-time, immersive collaboration across NCC’s multiple campuses through large shared screens, fostering a connected and interactive learning community.

The immersive labs at NCC’s Redbridge and Epping Forest campuses are now fully operational, ready to welcome students for the new term starting in September. Additionally, a third immersive lab is set to open at the Hackney campus in October, further expanding the reach of this innovative teaching approach.

Ian Fitzpatrick, the project leader at NCC, expressed his enthusiasm: “This is a fantastic resource. It’s the future of teaching and learning, giving a really enhanced experience for our learners. This is also an opportunity to collaborate and share resources with partner colleges, ensuring our students get the very best and most up-to-date expert resources to support their college courses.”

New City College is proud to be at the forefront of educational technology, continually striving to provide its students with the best possible learning opportunities.
