To ensure you make the most out of your time, we have compiled a short guide that will give you the confidence to thrive and excel at New City College.
Set clear goals
The first step towards getting the best experience possible at college is to establish clear goals. Reflect on what you want to achieve whilst studying. Are you aiming to go to university? Or do you want to go straight into employment after achieving your qualifications? By setting realistic goals for yourself you will have a clear understanding of what you want to achieve and how you can be successful.
Actively engage in classes
Your engagement and contribution to lessons is at the heart of your further education experience. By getting involved, participating in discussions and asking questions you will gain a much deeper understanding of your subject. Complete tasks and work with enthusiasm, putting maximum effort in to each project. This not only enhances your knowledge and the grades you will achieve, but it also fosters relationships with your teachers and peers, creating a vibrant learning environment.
Seek work experience
Gaining practical work experience is a valuable asset in today’s competitive job market. At New City College we have a dedicated department to help students secure work placements or internships with local businesses. Take advantage of these opportunities to apply your knowledge in real-world settings, build professional connections, and develop employability skills.
Take advantage of support services
We have a whole range of support services to help students succeed. Make it a priority to familiarise yourself with these early on when you join us. Whether it’s careers advice or enrichment workshops, these services are designed to provide guidance and support tailored to your needs.
Become a student ambassador
As a student ambassador you’ll develop leadership skills, help co-ordinate events and get to meet students from different courses. This is a fantastic way to grow confidence, communication skills and become a model student. Ambassadors can even earn money during some large events, such as enrolment, at New City College.
