Mij Rahman

Mij is currently working as a Paramedic, having studied A Levels at the Sixth Form from 2012 to 2014 and then a PGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education) at our Ardleigh Green campus last year.

He has lived in Newham all his life but chose to attend the Sixth Form to study A Levels in Psychology, Sociology, Criminology and Forensic Science because of the college’s good reputation.

After leaving the Sixth Form he took a degree in Psychology at Middlesex University and then went on to study and pass his Nursing qualification.

He started work for the Ambulance Service in Ilford, based in the busy call centre, dealing with emergencies, consultations and dispatch.

But he soon realised that he loved teaching and training new recruits, passing on essential 999 emergency, Paramedic and Nursing skills.

Mij became involved in the Ambulance Service’s in-house training and decided to take the PGCE qualification to enable him to develop his teaching role.

He said: “I always wanted to teach but I also knew I wanted to do something in the medical professions. Achieving the PGCE was tough and intense because I was working and studying at the same time, but it was also good fun because of the other people and the tutors on the course. I’d recommend it to anyone.”

Mij is hoping in the future to teach Mental Health Nursing or possibly A Level Psychology in a sixth form.
