Mursalin has a passion for Accounting and aims to progress to university to study Economics. He says the support he has received at NCC has been incredible and it has helped him to be successful.
Tell us about your education journey – what and where did you study before coming to NCC?
I am a middle school graduate from Italy with exceptionally high grades, given the fact that I was held back one year because of multiple surgeries on my right eye. I started high school in Italy with social studies in economy as a subject. However, I couldn’t finish the course as I had to relocate to London.
What are your plans for next steps?
I would like to do some work experience in business and accounting and then I plan to go to university and complete a degree in Economics, as I would be the first in my family to do so.
What’s your ambition in life?
To be respected and to live my life in a dignified and humble way. My other ambition in life would be to live comfortably without having to work and that money would not be a problem.
What is the most interesting thing you’ve learned on your course?
That would have to be Microsoft Sage. The fact that I can enter invoices of customers and suppliers is fun to me.
How did New City College help you achieve?
NCC has been the first education facility that I have attended, that has helped me feel included in normal activities, even though I was at a clear disadvantage with my physical circumstances. I would say that the support I’ve had has to be unmatched and unprecedented, compared to the support I received elsewhere. The staff and my peers have helped and aided me into achieving my best at New City College.
What values are most important to you?
Respect is one value that is crucial to me. I find that a relationship, whether it’s personal or professional, cannot a be a fruitful one without mutual respect.
What is the biggest change you wish to see in the world?
I would like to see the end of racism in the world – having personal experience with racism, I feel like it’s one thing we should leave in the history books.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
“Never forget what you are, the rest of the world won’t. Wear it like armour and it can never be used to hurt you.” – Tyrion Lannister
If you could go back in time, what would you tell your 15-year-old self?
I would tell my 15-year-old self to be more self-sufficient.
Who is your role model?
My role model is Bill Gates. He dropped out of school and was still able to become one of the most influential and wealthy men in the world.
Who is your favourite teacher and why?
Tracey Froget is my favourite teacher. She has not just helped me academically; she’s given me school lessons and life lessons in how to achieve.
What is the best thing about New City College?
NCC is an inclusive environment.
If you had three wishes, what would they be?
My 3 wishes would be: for my eyes to return to good health, to have wealth, and to be happy.
