We caught up with Wahida who studied Health and Social Care Level 2 Extended Diploma at our Hackney campus. Here she answers a Q&A about herself and her time at New City College.

 

Tell us about your education journey – what and where did you study before coming to NCC?

Before I came to NCC Hackney, I studied Photography at a different college

 

Tell me something about yourself.

I want to become a children’s nurse or social worker after I leave college

 

How did New City College help you achieve?

The college has helped me to achieve my goals by keeping me motivated. I have made good friends in class and with their help and the support of my teachers and other staff, I have been able to achieve.

 

If you could go back in time, what would you tell your 15-year-old self? 

To be more mature and overcome behavioural challenges

 

Who is your role model?

My closest friend is my role model

 

What is the biggest change you wish to see in the world?

I would love to see world peace

 

What values are most important to you?

Honesty, respect, responsibility and being a caring person

 

Who is your favourite teacher?

Sabina is my favourite teacher because she helps me with my work and makes powerpoint presentations that are simple to understand. She also gives me support if I ask for it and helps me correct areas that I need to work on, if needed.

 

What is the most interesting thing you’ve learned on your course?

The most interesting thing I’ve learned on the Health and Social Care course is that at different life stages, people have got different needs and develop in different ways

 

What would you say is making you feel positive at the moment?

My friends make me feel positive and the way I now feel about myself

 

What’s the best advice you have received?

The best advice I have ever received is from my friend. She told me that I needed to push myself forward in order to overcome the challenges in my life and that I should look back on it as an achievement

 

If you had three wishes, what would they be?

1 – For everyone in the world to have a successful and happy future

2 – To ensure that everyone can see their self-worth and improvement

3 – To make sure everyone feels loved and cared for

 

What is the best thing about New City College?

For me it would be the Learning Zone and the support of the staff who work in there

 

What are your plans for next steps?

For my next steps I will be studying the Level 3 Health and Social Care Extended Diploma
