Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, you will need to have a short interview with the tutor. An understanding of engineering / technical drawing would also be helpful and prior knowledge of computers would be useful.

Course information

This 2D Computer Aided Design course is an entry-level award covering the very basics of CAD draughting. The software you will use is Auto CAD, you will learn to use all the commands needed to produce complex drawings and to plot (print) your drawings; at level 2 you will be working in model/drawing space.

The course is delivered over one evening each week for 35 weeks and is intended as an introduction to CAD.

  • Use associated IT, CAD hardware and operating systems
  • Use basic file management techniques and maintain health and safety requirements
  • Use and identify key components of the software relating to the 2D drawing environment
  • Use a range of viewing commands and setup the drawing space
  • Use drawing commands to produce drawings from various industries
  • Modify existing drawings
  • Use the CAD software's coordinate system to aid accurate drawing
  • Use hatch, text and simple dimensioning routines
  • How you are assessed

    The assessment for this course comprises of three drawings externally set by City and Guilds and internally marked by the college assessor then externally verified by City and Guilds. When this practical work is complete there is a short written exam.

What Can This Course Lead To
