Entry requirements

You will be expected to have GCSE English Language atgrade 4 or above, Maths grade 3 or above, plus 2 other GCSEs at grade 3 or above. A satisfactory interview and satisfactory DBS (formerly CRB) check are also required.

Course information

This is a full time professional qualification which meets the criteria for employment within the childcare sector at Level 2.

Among the units you will study are:

  • roles and responsibilities of the early years practitioner
  • health and safety of babies and young children early years settings
  • safeguarding, protection and welfare of babies and young children in early years settings
  • support care routines for babies and young children
  • support the planning and delivery of activities, play opportunities and educational programmes
  • support well-being of babies and young children for healthy lifestyles
  • support the needs of babies and young children with special educational needs and disability
  • promote positive behaviour in early years settings

Completion of this qualification will equip you with knowledge, understanding and skills across a range of key subject areas, for example the stages and sequences of child development, children's needs in relation to emotional and physical well-being, the role of the early years practitioner in maintaining a healthy and safe environment for children, safeguarding children and child protection, and the role of play in relation to children's learning and development.

  • How you are assessed

    You will have one assignment per unit. You will complete three assessments in the workplace and will need to be signed off against all performance criteria.

    All students complete a mandatory work placement for two days each week for which they are working in an early years setting.

  • Why study at NCC?

    This is a full-time Level 2 qualification designed to start to build the knowledge and skills needed when working with babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas. Successful students may progress to the Childcare Level 3 (Childcare & Education - Early Years Educator - CACHE Level 3 Technical Certificate) or to employment within the sector.

What Can This Course Lead To

Students can progress onto the Childcare Level 3 (Technical Certificate in Childcare and Education) which leads to the Level 3 Diploma in the second year, or access employment in nurseries and playgroups as a Level 2 Practitioner.
