Entry requirements

You need to have an intermediate level of competence in using IT software. You should have experience of:

  • Creating and managing files and folders.
  • Creating and publishing word processed documents.
  • Using spreadsheet software to order and sort information
  • Using presentation software to create a slide show.
  • It is also advantageous if you are able to access and add to tables of information in a database.

ICDL will help you to improve your skills in using the most commonly applications used in work and educational settings at an advanced level. You will learn to practically apply the use of mostly used applications in order to improve the way in which they carry out tasks, be able to support and advise others on the use of software and ultimately find ways to improve overall productivity.

There is an ever-increasing need for individuals equipped with the advanced skills to support the development and implementation of IT solutions that deliver efficiencies and enhances the productivity of individuals and teams. ICDL will help you to be part of such a well-equipped skilled force.

  • Assessment Criteria

    Each module is assessed through either an online or manual test which will assess the your competence of using each software and in improving productivity through the use of IT. Each assessment will include a Knowledge test of multiple-choice questions as well as an “In Application” Performance test that will require you to use software to complete specific tasks.

    You are required to achieve a 75% pass mark in both the Knowledge and Performance tests. On successful completion of all five assessments, you will attain your BCS Level 3 Certificate in IT User Skills (ECDL Advanced) (ITQ).

On completion you could progress to employment or onto a L4 Apprenticeship or L4 Higher education course. You may wish to consider exploring other qualifications or pathways to specialize in areas such as data management or cyber security.

This qualification will help you to become a department expert in your workplace or will support you with careers that require use of technology to carry out various tasks.
