Awe-inspiring talent on display at Creative Arts Summer Festival

Creative Arts students from across six New City College campuses put on an outstanding exhibition of their work at an end-of-year showcase festival.

More than 1,000 students from courses including drama, music, photography, art and design, media, gaming, digital publishing, TV and film and textiles displayed their work for friends, family and visitors from the local community.

The Festival, held at Ardleigh Green, Epping Forest, Hackney, Havering Sixth Form, Redbridge and Tower Hamlets campuses, highlighted the incredible talent of students who leave college ready for careers in the creative and media industries.

Along with exhibitions on campus, the Summer Festival also included near sell-out performances of drama production Legally Blonde and a Music showcase at the professional Queen’s Theatre in Hornchurch.

Fashion and Art and Design students from Hackney shared their exhibits at Hoxton Hall, which was packed out with admiring visitors and artists from the local area.

External stakeholders – employers, universities, local schools, Mayors, charities and local councillors – who have worked with the college this year were also in attendance and were able to see the impact their involvement has had on the student experience.

Epping Forest Councillor Stephen Murray visited the Epping Forest campus showcase and was very impressed by what he saw, saying: “I have just returned from an outstanding creative arts festival evening at New City College.

“The quality of the art on display and the drama production was simply awe-inspiring.

“It is great that our local college offers such a wide range of vocational courses, including the performing arts, for our 16+ teenagers.”

Andy Greaves, Deputy Group Curriculum Director for Creative and Digital, said: “This end of year showcase really does have a festival feel and is the perfect way for our students to celebrate the work they have produced over the course of their studies with friends, family, teachers and our external partners.

“The music gigs, drama performances, arts, media and gaming exhibitions allow students to collaborate and share an eclectic selection of work with each other and the wider community. It also shows that they are industry ready when they leave us and will go on to successful futures.”
