Mayor so impressed with Catering students after hosting Christmas lunch at Rouge

The Mayor of Redbridge, Jyotsna Islam, has called New City College’s Rouge Restaurant a ‘hidden gem’ after hosting her Christmas Lunch there for local VIPs and dignitaries.

The Mayor attended Rouge – an award-winning, fine dining restaurant staffed by NCC Catering and Hospitality students – along with 16 invited guests who were all mayors and councillors from neighbouring boroughs.

Thanking the college for hosting the event, she said: “The Rouge Restaurant at New City College is a hidden gem!

“I’m so proud of the students who made and served our Christmas lunch and made the afternoon so memorable.  They are our future in the hospitality industry and I wish them every success with whichever path they choose to follow. They are a credit to New City College and the tutors who are mentoring them.”

The Mayor was served from the Christmas Lunch menu, which included a traditional Turkey dinner or other options such as seared scallops, monkfish and prawn brochette, cauliflower kiev and mulled chocolate mousse.

Jacqueline Mitchell, Deputy Principal at NCC Redbridge campus, where Rouge is based, said the lunch went very well and the Mayor and her guests were all very impressed with the facilities, the food, the décor of the restaurant and the professionalism of the students.

The Hospitality and Catering students are led by a team of industry professionals and trained by experienced chefs as they work towards qualifications such as Introduction to the Hospitality Industry, Professional Cookery, Food and Beverage Service Supervision, Hospitality Services and Culinary Skills: Professional Chef.
