“Studying Early Years at Hackney Sixth Form has given me so much hands-on experience. One of the best parts of the course is our weekly ‘Stay and Play’ sessions, where we run an in-house nursery. We plan and lead activities like painting, storytelling, games and creative play with young children, which helps us put what we learn in class into real practice. It feels like working in a real nursery rather than just being in a classroom.
“Alongside that, I also have a weekly work placement at a nursery where I support children across different age groups and help them learn through play in a safe environment. Having this real work experience has helped me build confidence and develop practical skills, and it’s made me even more excited about building a career in childcare.”
“Studying Media at Hackney Sixth Form has given me loads of opportunities inside and outside the classroom to develop my industry skills. We get to work with professional equipment, Mac editing suites and screen rooms, which makes the course feel really hands-on and practical.
“We also go on trips and take part in workshops with directors and filmmakers, where we’ve been able to network with professionals and hear what working in the film and media industry is really like.
“This year I’ve even completed additional qualifications alongside my course, including drone operation for filmmaking, and film set health and safety. “Studying Applied Science at Hackney Sixth Form has given me a great insight into the subject and has helped me see how what we learn connects to a real career in science. We’ve been on several trips that bring what we learn in class to life, including visits to the University of Westminster and the Science Museum.
“One of the most memorable experiences was taking part in a surgical workshop led by an experienced surgeon, where we learned more about medical practice and careers in healthcare. We’ve also had guest speakers deliver CPR workshops, giving us practical skills that could be really valuable in the future.”
